CDRW RAID Array for backups
As cheap as CDRW drives (and blank discs) are these days, has anyone considered building a tower of these things and using them as an automated backup device?
I'm thinking: Wouldn't it be nice for my home network to have an 8 drive cdrw tower that I can fill with blank CDR's, maybe once a month, and have the linux box do incremental backups? It wouldn't necessarily have to be a RAID, or treated as a single volume. It would just need to perform unattended backups. The best case would be to have it start with a full backup, then do incrementals until the discs are full. I could script it to send me an email when the discs are full, so that I know to swap in new blanks. I can't find this topic discussed anywhere.. maybe I'm searching for the wrong terms. Is anyone aware of this being done? |
Have you tried http://google.com/linux and type in "cdrw backups" this might help you find something.
