Question Can't change password through SSH

Hello,

I did a chage -d 0 <username> to force the user to change the password immediately, however, when the user logs in through ssh they get the following error after logon:

You are required to change your password immediately (root enforced)
Your password has expired, the session cannot proceed.

After this messages runs, the ssh connection is terminated. If I log in as root (through ssh) and su to the user, the password prompt works fine. this is happening to me on Fedora Core 1.

any ideas?
