BSD Firewall vs Linux Firewall ?
Well, as the subject simply states, anyone care to take a shot at this?
I'm debating between putting up a OpenBSD firewall or a Linux Firewall.
I know Linux uses IPTABLES and BSD can use a couple different type of firewalls. Mainly, IPF and IPFW.
My question to anyone is, what are the pro's and con's of both? I'm in the process of heading towards a Linux 'Guru' (my goal) as I plan to use it in my career.
However, i've been told to learn BSD as well. So i've been dabling in BSD as well.
Soooo, if anyone cares to throw their opinion out, recommendations, anything, feel free to. I always look forward to replies.
Yours Truley,
TheRoot

I'd suggest to learn bsd if you wanna get into best possible security (~0 exploits for bsd). If you want to use lots of new hardware Linux is the call.
If your firewall needs to be bulletproof, you would rather consider bsd, if you wanna do funky stuff with firewall use iptables
btw
firewall isn't only protection for server

Peter_APIIT, you need to stop steering other people's threads off-topic. I've noticed you've developed a habit of this and it is not something we appreciate here at LQ. This thread is for discussing BSD vs. Linux firewalls, not for helping you set-up your BSD firewall distro. Heck, that isn't even a Linux question to begin with. Do not make any further posts in this thread unless they are directly related to the topic at hand.

Thanks for pointing this out, I missed it. Being that Peter_APIIT has been asked to stop this behavior before, appropriate action has been taken. That said, I'm closing this thread so it can rest in peace.
