Blocking porting and a VPN

Hi

I have an Ubuntu server that has a BitTorrent client and OpenVpn service installed. I'd like to block BitTorrent when the OpenVpn service is down but allow it when its up.

What would be the best approach to take?

Thanks

If you are running VPN, then I presume that you intend for all traffic to be passing through it ... including the BT traffic. (This will be very expensive, unless you are using a hardware router to implement VPN.)

If this is not the case, then what you are asking for is "inherently insecure," because it means that there are times when the system is supposed to be secure, but other times when BT is supposed to have direct access (and to be directly-accessible). Instead of doing this, I suggest that you have two physically-separate machines.

If you know what ports you are using to BT then allow traffic for those ports only by OpenVPN interface?
