Best way to use Windows home drives being logged into Linux-IDMU is going away
 

We log into Linux and run a text menu to our database. We have Windows home nfs mounted to the Linux box so that we can read and write from our home directories. Identity Management for Unix is going away according to Windows. We have been having problems with user/group consistency between Linux and Windows. What are other users using to do this type of thing? What would you recommend.

The best way to manage "user and group consistency" is to use LDAP, which MIcrosoft refers to as Open Directory.® Linux has a PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) scheme which will allow it to use the same authority for its own login credentials, instead of referring to its own local password files. Although the fundamental identity systems are of course different, there are also well-established ways to map these. This creates "single sign-on."

P.S. I doubt that Windows Home Edition has those tools conveniently installed. But, I'd never be caught using that Edition anyway. (I prefer my horses to have all four feet.)
