Bastille?


Has anyone ever heard of linux-bastille-project and if so are the security downloads for Redhat or other distros any good/do they work? Thanks

I use it all the time. What Bastille does is try to harden your OS as best as possible. They have a RH9 release available and install is fairly straight forward. I highly recommend it if you want an OS that has better security than out of the box. You could also try SE-Linux but that is more difficult to install/configure.

I would go so far as to say that Bastille is almost required if you want to be safe

What it is essentially is a set of scripts that ask you questions about your system, how it runs, what you want it to do and then it goes about and makes all the adjustments you need to do to make it secure.

Its a really good product and has helpful descriptions inside at almost ALL the questions it asks you.

Keep in mind it doesn't really DO anything you can't do on your own, but it covers everything and if you're a newbie it'll probably teach you a few things along the way. Even if you KNOW everything there is to know about linux security, using Bastille is one way to be sure you didn't forget a basic thing to do in a long list of things to do, security wise
