authentication failure


i am not able to login in any mode other than single user mode. it is giving "authentication failure". then i tried in single user mode and changed the root passwd but still same message.
plz let me know how to solve.

what authentication method are you using?

you can revery back to MD5 and shadow based authentication by running authconfig.
