Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as an application firewall for linux, like there are for Windows?
Perhaps you can do it a different way with linux?
So basically I would like to decide on an app by app basis whether applications are allowed to make network connections, and if so, limit the ip addresses and ports that they can communicate on if necessary.
Yeah, shorewall is the Mandrake distro firewall of choice, so I have it activated.
I would like to have more control over what can and cannot access the internet.
I personally don't hold with the notion that all the software I have installed is trustable, and so should have unfettered access to the internet and my network.
Perhaps that comes from living with Windows for so long, but it just makes sense that I should decide whether an app needs to connect to the internet or not. Not the developer.
