MaxRequestsPerChild is very low. A website visit can easily top 10 requests (my wordpress one will take about 7).
Assuming your server is taking about 42 concurrent users (total), it will be killing that apache process and spawning a new one every second (300/7=42). That uses up a lot of cpu time if this goes on for awhile and the cpu is needed for other things. So.. what level of traffic are you getting?
In any case, 5000 (or even 10000) may be a better setting unless your software has some serious memory leaks.
