Anti-Virus Program for Linux
 
Hi All...

I wanted to know whether theres any anti-virus program for Linux or not? I know windows got heaps, but wat about linux? Can I install Norton Anti-Virus in a Linux system?

Hmm... I need help. Thanks.

I need to secure my Linux if possible.

I don't know if there is a GNU/Linux version of Norton Antivirus but you can use ClamAV (www.clamav.net). It has updates frequently and can get them automatically. And also there is a free (as in free beer, not open source) GNU/Linux version of F-Prot (www.f-prot.com). But they haven't On-Access scanning property; so you should do a scan frequently. I use both and think that they're enough.

you wont run into viruses on linux, so dont worry. always logging in as root or something might make things worse for you, but if you're not doing this, youre good. i guess if you're super paranoid clamav is good, but believe me, you dont need it. you need to be logged in as root to destroy your system, so viruses wont be able to do this unless a hacker roots your system, which he or she will only try if you're running a server or something.

btw a firewall might be nice. try guarddog if you want a gui or ipkungfu if you want a simple script generator.
