Anti virus For Linux

Hi all,

Thanks to have solved my queries..legends..in our Server We are giving Ftp Access

to all our clients. My question is if a client uploads a file with virus

then how to deal with that particular file. currently we are doing like this..first

download all the files from linux server to Windows server then scanning all the files

with windows antivirus Software...It takes too much of time!!! to avoid

this .. what are the things i need to do.. is that any anti virus available for LINUX?

or while client uploads the file itself is that any possible to give alert to client

this file contains virus...like that..???

For Linux, there's clamav, AVG for Linux, and F-Prot for Linux, just to name three reputable ones off the top of my head.

clamAV it is in most if not all distros repos .
run it as a daemon

it will look for the MS Windows *.exe and other nasty bits for MS windows

You mention that they are uploading via ftp. It would be best to scan the files as they are passing through the FTP server rather than manually performing this task after the fact. You haven't provided details regarding the distribution and FTP program you are using so it is hard to give you targeted advice for this but here is a link to an example how to configure Proftpd to use ClamAV during the transfer.
