Allow users to view logs

Hi guys

what is the best way I can adopt to allow other users to view logs (mysql etc) other than the root user?

Is it just by setting the R/W permission on the file?

Short answer, yes

If you know that the logs are safe to view by a set of users, I'd create a group, add the allowed users to the group and change the group ownership of the log files (and the directory containing them if they need to be able to list the files). I don't recommend allowing all users to view logs, but that's only a preference based on the contents of the logs I track here.
