Adding a ftp user
HI ALL
I have configured vsftpd service in my server on redhat 9 .
I have given access to only one user and changed the local directory to /var/www/html because i wanted this user to access only html directory in my server . But the user is able to see all files and directories in my server and can download any file from the server . Please help me prevent my server accessed by this ftp user.
Thanking all

you probably have to set the default root directory in the vsftpd configuration to lock them into the directory you want, in this case, /var/www/html. i use proftpd, but i'd imagine it's the same in vsftpd. the config file itself might even have instructions in the comments.

Hi pikky2006,
In vsftpd, you can jailed the user into current directory by adding this rules in your vsftpd.conf
chroot_local_user=YES
save your new configuration, restart your ftp server, it should jailed your user to /var/www/html and he/she cant get out of that location.
Hope this help you
Thanks

madhugp:
1. don't yell. typing in all caps is considered yelling and isn't appropriate in most situations.
2. to post a new thread, go to the forum you want -- newbie, for example, and click the button near the upper left hand corner of the forum that says "New Thread." the button looks like this.
a complete list of the LQ forums is here.
