Good evening all,

I have a problem accessing my linux machine from outside the local network with FTP. I am easily able to access it on port 21 within the network, but whenever i attempt to access it outside, i get a lovely timeout.

Is there anything that i can change in firewall settings, or the hosts.allow / hosts.deny files? i have no idea if i'm looking in the right place.

I can access the linux machine using telnet on port 22 quite easily outside of the local network, just not FTP.

I am using Suse 9.1 Professional. Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like you need to forward the ports to your internal machine. What sits between the machine and the Internet? Is it a router or a gateway machine? More info is needed to figure this one out.

If this machine is connected to the Internet directly, is your FTP server set to listen on the external interface?
