`Shutdown now` goes to single user mode? Paused Start time
Hey, just recently I went to move my server computer and did a 'shutdown now' to turn it off and I got into single user mode!
You have new mail. root@daveserv:~$ shutdown now Shutdown NOW! shutdown: [pid 169] *** FINAL System shutdown message from root@daveserv *** System going down IMMEDIATELY root@daveserv:~$ System shutdown time has arrived Shutting down daemon processes: mysqld. Saving firewall state tables:. Enter full pathname of shell or RETURN for /bin/sh: # And now I'm stuck with a shell!? Why does this happen? I've had this happen on my RedHat box before (Now running FreeBSD).. Is it because I left SSH open for an hour? (Never had my SSH open on RedHat, I only allow one user to access it, no direct root access and strong passwords) Also this happens when booting: Initial rc.i386 initialization:. Configuring syscons: blanktime. Additional ABI support:. Local package initialization: HERE mysqld Samba. Where I wrote 'here' in bold, I also have to press Ctrl+C to get it going otherwise it sits and waits there.. Never had to do that before... Any help is GREATELY APPERICATED!! Thanks Dave |

use cmd like this shutdown -h now h means halt. I guess it is a way to take into single user mode without restarting the box compltely. chow |
