I'm moving this to the news section.

Er, where does it say anything about being linux-friendly? Google talk uses the Jabber protocol, so it is already compabile with gaim... that festoon client doesn't appear to have a linux version out, even though it does have video and audio (which gaim doesn't)

So where does linux come into this?

New version of SKYPE also has Video, Chat, File Transfer, conference, and the best voIP available.

FliesLikeABrick 12-19-2005 03:25 PM

ah, well I haven't used skype much (it wouldn't be far off to say I've used it at all), and I also forgot that skype has a linux client

Wengophone already brings video chat to linux. It works for me.

I know the first couple of LQ Radio was done on skype and they were having some issues on confrence type calls. I do not know about the video portion of skype.

ctkroeker 12-21-2005 04:37 PM

The video is still in beta, It'll be in the next official release.

dukeinlondon 12-21-2005 04:41 PM

Right now, skype is a one call only affair since it won't free up the audio device after one call. The fact that it's OSS based doesn't make things any better

amsn has video for msn. no audio yet...

I use amsn for video and skype for audio together and it works great. Gaim and gaim-vv will eventually merge... I sure don't know when though...
