Win a subscription to Linux Pro Magazine courtesy of LQ

I'm happy to announce that we're able to give away some gratis 1 year (12 issue) subscriptions to Linux Pro Magazine to celebrate LQ recently turning 10. There are currently two ways to be eligible for this free subscription.

* We'll randomly select one member who logs in between now and July 14th. That's right; to be eligible for one of the subscriptions, all you need to do is log into LQ!

* We'll randomly select 2 members who post to the LQ Suggestions & Feedback forum between now and July 14th. This can be a new thread or a reply, a suggestion or just general feedback. Any valid post makes you eligible.

We'll post the winners here on July 14th. The default selection for each winner will be one digital subscription. Any winning member who resides in North America will also have the option of receiving a standard print subscription. For more information on Linux Pro Magazine (who will soon be celebrating their 10th year as well), visit http://www.linuxpromagazine.com/.

Note, we'll also be giving away one additional subscription on both facebook and twitter, so be sure to keep an eye on:

* Twitter: http://twitter.com/linuxquestions
* Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/LinuxQuestions.org

bichonfrise74 07-08-2010 02:05 PM

This is really awesome!!! Thanks!

itiwbs 07-09-2010 06:30 AM

A magazine?

I'll find time to read it.

lqlarry 07-10-2010 04:37 PM

This would be a nice gift to get. I hope I get it.

2ck 07-11-2010 12:45 PM

Jeremy, do you have some affiliation with Linux Pro Magazine, or are you buying the subscription privately in the name of the winner? Also, with print subscriptions, will they be with or without the DVDs?

jeremy 07-12-2010 11:45 AM

2ck,

I'm not sure whether the print subscriptions come with or without the DVDs, but I can get that information from the folks at Linux Pro if you're a winner and choose print.

The chances to win on twitter and facebook are now both live as well:

* Twitter: http://twitter.com/linuxquestions
* Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/LinuxQuestions.org

Ok. Thank you.

SteveK1979 07-12-2010 04:58 PM

Hi Jeremy,

Is this open to people regardless of where you're from?

Cheers,
Steve

jeremy 07-12-2010 05:01 PM

The contest is open to all LQ members regardless of location and the default is for a digital subscription. If the winner if located in North America, they have the option of receiving a print subscription but retain the option of choosing digital.

Logged in. Thanks again for the gratis. This has been a wonderful offer since couple of years. ( I havent won yet).

rjcooks 07-13-2010 11:27 AM

I like Linux Magazine( Linux Pro Magazine in the USA and Canada ). I'd really like a free full year subscription, as I imagine most others would too, :), but JIC it does not happen I'd like to point out that they have a limited special going on and the non "randomly chosen" people might want to take a look at the Trial Subscription offer for 3 months including 3 DVDs of software with a full Linux distro in each one.

They do not mention it but one does get a choice of Linux Pro Magazine, Special Editions or Ubuntu User magazine as well as a choice of start date(all the way back to March!) in the trial. The hard part is deciding when to start! ( Current and previous issue information here: http://www.linux-magazine.com/Issues/2010 )

It's just 3 bucks(USD) ...

[...]
I recognize this is like an advertisement but it is the same theme as the thread which in itself is an advertisement for LPM so I hope moderators will allow this "consolation offer" information.

jeremy 07-13-2010 04:56 PM

Thanks for the links rjcooks. Congratulations to our twitter winner Crashbox. There's less than 24 hours left for your chances to win here on LQ and on facebook.

Sweet competition, we need more of this type in the open source world. Would be ideal for a user wishing to develop their skills, but I personally think Linux Magazine is a bit too advanced for a newbie.

syg00 07-14-2010 08:02 PM

Thanks to jeremy (and Rikki apparently).

omargut 07-14-2010 08:55 PM

FWIW, the Community Bulletin explicitly stated that the Linux Pro giveaway was over, but to keep an eye on this thread for additional chances to win something in the very near future. The LQ decennial celebration WILL continue.

You folks made my week!
Really, it makes me feel better. I have not won anything that I wanted for years and years.

JICYAW if a rag always trips my trigger, as an old GF used to say(waaaay too much) no, I'm geeky(what engineer is not?) but not THAT geeky. It was a bad week primarily 'cause work week ended so badly ...ISP problems(liars & morons ... :rolleyes:).

Thank you very much!

PM on the way, :).

2 little - 2 late

This all seems a little chaotic. - much like a lot of Ubuntu (sorry to say). I'd like it to work. The concept is admirable, but the product is not wonderful. New version after new version is churned out with the same/different/unresolved/new bugs. Just because it is free does not mean it has to be less than perfect. Open Office is a case in point.
The bugs that were there 5 years ago have not been fixed. They probably never will be.
They make futuristic movies just about this kind of mindset. Think of Brazil for example.

It can take me anything up to 4 hours to find where to post. Then when I find where, I have either lost the thread or forgotten what I was going to ask.
My life is really to short for it all.

kindofabuzz 07-19-2010 06:08 PM

I won.

Sounds like an interesting way to increase user participation. I'd have to echo what doriama said above...I tend to lurk this site a lot but have never actually posted a question. I have however, found a vast majority of my linux questions already answered on these forums. They've been very useful to me. I'll have to come up with some interesting questions I guess before July 21st ;)
