Win a Gratis Pass to OSCON 2011 Courtesy of LQ

We're happy to announce that as part of the LQ Birthday Celebration, we've teamed up with O'Reilly to be able to offer a completely gratis pass to OSCON 2011 in Portlan, OR (a $1,345 value). Please keep in mind that travel and hotel are not included. To be eligible, respond to this thread with why you'd like to attend and how you think you'd benefit from attending. We'll randomly pick a response on July 8th and that member will be able to attend OSCON 2011 on us. OSCON is always a great event and LQ will once again be in attendance. Please only respond if you are willing and able to attend the conference, which is July 25-29. Thanks and good luck.

I'd like to go because I've nothing to do. Linux, free software and technology in general is pretty interesting. Also, I've got a few friends there that I rarely get to see.

I would love to attend OSCON because I hear it is one of the best tech conferences. I also live in Portland so travel is not a problem. I love programming in java and would love to attend all the java sessions. Also open source is the way development should be. Please pick me!!!!

oscon is awesome!

ill keep this short and to the point.
with the loss of all my local linux conferences (linuxworld, etc) in the bay area my chances to check out open source-esque events is greatly diminished. It was really awesome when oscon was in my hometown (sanjose) a few yrs ago, I hope you guys will be back sometime!
but either way awesome, as that gave me a chance to learn about it.
i've been using linux since 96, and have worked as a sysadmin.
currently I'm very involved with the Silicon Valley Palm/webOS Users Group in the SJ bay area and as such very into open web technologies (html5,css,js (incl node))

that's me in a nutshell, and hope to join you folks! I'm currently in job search mode and would only be able to come expo-only without this..
thanks for your offer regardless!

Too bad I saw this post about a month late! As a previous winner of the LQ gratis pass to OSCON conference I would have loved to attend this one as well. When there previously I was treated to a enormous amount of information on a variety of topics which have all contributed to my daily work in some fashion or another. The after party and connections made during the conference has broadened my network and given me additional colleagues to collaborate with... Coming from Dallas to San Jose for the duration cost me a few gold coins but well worth the investment!

[Maybe not a month late, dates on post say 6/8 but was posted todaY??]

Oscon

I would like to win a free pass to OSCON to hear my daughter speak. I am a long time linux user. I am currently unemployed. I would like to also attend the Data sessions to keep my skills current. I am a R user. Mary Anne

Oscon

I would love to attend the conference so I can keep my skills current and shake off some of the rust. I'm already planning on attending the free parts but couldn't be my company to pay so I could attend the rest.

To clarify after an initial mistake - the winner will be chosen on July 8th. I apologize for any confusion.

Happy B-Day LQ!

I would like to attend because LQ is awesome and I never been out on a OSCON or to any conference :)

Cultist 07-06-2011 02:47 PM

I'd swallow a broken bottle to be able to attend (and also write a long and beautiful explanation for why I should win), but unfortunately I won't be able to get away from work on such short notice =(

but pre-win congratulations to the winner, you will have my undying envy :P

Today is the Java7 release party and there is a 77% discount on OSCON Java. The tweet says to use Java77 as the discount code.

What incredible Fortune

So, I was going to go to OSCON, but I really can't afford the cost of tickets now. I had a friend that went last year, and DIDN'T go to half of the talks I would have wanted to go to. He live-waved the whole event and I loved every minute. The stories he told, about some of the speakers, when he came back, were the Icing on the cake.

To make matters worse, I'll be in Portland 2days before the event, on family business, and it would be such a shame to miss out on such a great opportunity to meet some of the folks who make the software I love, and to learn so much about how to use it better, and to write it more intelligently.

Thanks for running this contest. Congrats to whoever wins.

I'd love to attend OSCON, but unfortunately for that particular period I've planned Sudoku sessions with my cat.

If, however, OSCON were to move to Europe, I'd be willing to cancel the sessions. I'm sure my cat would understand.

Congratulations to mrGenixus who will be receiving a gratis pass to OSCON courtesy of LQ. Please contact us offline for details on how to obtain your pass. In the event that mrGenixus is unable to attend, maryannepdx was the randomly chosen backup. Congrats and see you at OSCON.
