What if HP buys Red Hat?

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. Then what? Red Hat is the last big company that is heavily involved in Linux that hasn't been bought out. Lord knows they do tons and tons of Linux development. If HP buys them, I don't know that this would continue, especially in regards to HP's downsizing stuff as a matter of reflex.

As the article says, right now it's speculation. However, the article also points out that HP seems to want to bring back a focus on R&D and, lets not forget, HP has supported Linux in several ways for a long time. Maybe we'd lose "RH Linux" and get "HP Linux" (although, with RH being such a recognisable brand that's not a given) but in the short to medium term there probably won't be a huge change.

And I have moved this to Linux-News as it's discussing an article rather than being a technical question.
