systemd will claim it's in charge of it.

I believe we'll see an increasing move away from isolated services and big corporate cloud providers to a federated private cloud and federated services. I think people don't want to have to be on the same network, service, provider, to talk to each other, and they're tired of the big corporations mining their information and using it to deluge them with advertising. Isolated private networks solve this problem but don't let people interact, but I think federated networks like XMPP/Jabber, Owncloud, etc, will solve both these problems.

I think companies who offer mainstream software will start to have their products available for Linux.

This is my first posting so don't expect too much.
My 'prediction" is that there is a force afoot
attempting to mainstream linux into the hands of
window users.Me thinks that Ubuntu is the leader in
that pack as 15.04 , which is what i'm running,
fels more like proprietory software. The magazine
it came in (published in UK ) was bursting with colored
photography and so many smiling faces that i had to
watch a B&W 1950s b scifi movies just to get back
to reality. Isn't this kind of against the grain of
what GNU & open Source philosophy is all about.

( i snce have dwnld a copy of precise puppy 5.7.1
and an .iso file of "mint" which i have not yet
installed)

sure, there is a steep learning curve to linux,
but then if you build lixury hotel on the rim
of the grand cayon, every politically correct
"nature lover" will show up to enjoy their
airconditioned view, over a martini, while d#a&
few will be riding a burro to the floor of the cayon
to sleep in an old cowboy bunk house where the temps
can reach 120F. but they did "experience" the great
canyon and not just another hotel supper.

me thinks that linux users experience what computing is
about. it hurts a little. call it mental blisters.
but then you are no longer dependent on yet another
glizzy, mulilayered beells and whistles GUI
independence abd freedom comes with a price,

Sooo, as linux gains in populariy, and some vendors,
companies start to milk that market, those forces
will try to stear the Whole He & She bang into

betwwen those who stay true to GNU & those who what

Linux distros will finally include a user friendly way to do a system image. I am a Linux person, but this is one area where Microsoft excels.

Intel will release a logic board that-- despite Linux hackers best attempts --really will only work with Windows 10. Shortly thereafter Microsoft will announce a forced upgrade to Windows 11, which will also be unable to run on the Windows 10 board.

Proprietary and unfixable devices will continue to fuel efforts to create open source hardware alternatives.

IBM assets will be sold to Mike Lazaridis, then he'll build the ClosedAI.com against OpenAI.com, and he'll invest more and more in quantum computing Canadian startups to build in secret the Robot Sapiens aryan race, the next generation of crazy entities that will search for thousands of years, "who is my Creator? and why the fuck am I here !?". When they'll get the singularity, we will begin to die thanks to two steps:

1. Mars will be colonized by engineers, soldiers, and rich businessmen/women thanks to USA companies like SpaceX. And because the other states are jealous, they will start to build a huge ghost competition market with some GONGOs. Nobody will care to the dying Earth and the crazy climate.

2.In-between, in 2032, USA will merge with the European Union. Then, in 2037, there will be the WW3 with nuclear bombs against the non-aligned states: Islamic State, Iran, Russia, China, India, United Korea, and... Israel that has prefered building economic and military alliances at its East side with the growing power of Asia.

Probably many new self driving car prototypes.. Using Linux.
And long waited iOS 9.2 jailbreak

I'm seeing many Dev's awfully close to a stable and fully functional Linux for existing smartphones. Very excited to see this come to light.

I predict that more companies will make their employees take a working product and make it useless. Then try to sell it twice as much as before.

There will be more OEMs choosing Linux. ( :-) what I want).
Closed Source will be left far behind by Open Source.
Microsoft will hate Linux more than before but it will take advantages of Open Source by embracing Docker for example.
My wife will prefer Linux over MS... :-) because there is no Windows at my home since 2015.

Mobile phones will continue to evolve.
