Brilliant suggestion TobiSGD
@jeremy thanks for implementing this. :)

Not only does this cause a problem when you go to linuxquestions to read new posts, and become inactive, but when you are just browsing the web with no intention of going to linuxquestions, it gets reset because as you are researching things and opening up different websites looking for the info that you are researching, one site ends up being linuxquestions.org, and your browser automatically signs you on. Then later that day you decide to go to linuxquestions.org to to read the new posts, and all the new posts that would have been there are now no longer listed as new posts.

Android LQ.....

Hi All, :hattip:

I have a simple cell 'phone, nothing fancy. I don't plan on getting one of the Android models as I have enough trouble remembering how to use my cell 'phone. Because of my degenerating liver, I have memory problems, so a fancy, smanchy, 'phone will do me no good. :banghead:

If LQ is going to change, I'll just have to adapt to the new software or format. I find LQ very helpful at times and at others I feel I'm being made fun of. :o But on the whole, there are some great folks on here. ;)

I'm greatly limited funds wise as to what computer software and parts I can purchase on this small, monthy disability check, but I enjoy the folks on here.

GOD BLESS,
Warmest Regard,

AQ was slower when I tried just now. So please don't make LQ slower. LQ is fine and I don't see a need to change it.
What is the reason for changing it? Features for feature's sake is never a good reason. Might as well throw this out there too. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

It's possible you hit a transient issue, but in almost all cases the newer code should be faster than the old code (and in many cases, significantly so). As I have stated many times, we're not simply updating for the sake of updating. I've outlined many reasons many times now, if you're interested a quick search should give you plenty of info (post #28 in this very thread is probably a good start).

It's possible we'll switch to a system where only threads you've viewed are marked as read (with a single click to "mark all as read), but 1) that's a major change so we'd need to solicit member feedback and 2) we'd have to see what the performance impact of the change would be to see if it's even feasible.

I would very much like to have threads not marked as read when my session ends! Wayne gives one of the good reasons for this:

The performance impact can be controlled by setting a number of days after which threads get marked as read anyway. Lower activity forums tend to set this at 30 day. Ubuntuforums has it at 3 days which is too short for me; 7 days would be a good balance - but you will have to see what the performance is like.

I prefer the colour scheme of LQ to that at AQ, but can live with either. (Actually I think AQ should have fewer colours, maybe green grey and white, drop the blue and yellow.)

Looked at post #28, makes sense. This is a place to find answers or give answers. Keep it simple. Because you have a policy on distro support it makes that support better. Look at netflix, they pissed off the subscribers and it cost them. My only suggestion is to keep it simple. That means fast, lightweight and easy and not completely different from the current.

Two initial comments:

1) The color scheme is GROSS!

2) At least the search bar as at the top.

Just a quick thank you :)

I just want to let the folks on this site know how much help you have been. I have been using Linux for 3 years and because of your support it made the transition to Linux a whole lot easier.

Again Thanks

most commonly deploy hardware and software

I appreciate that there be beasties in what I'm about to request, but I hope that there is appropriate talent and creativity to do something meaningful without the dragon fodder.

I'd like to run some script over my workstation(s). That script would gather software & hardware details and anonymously post them to a repository. The repository would sift all the details from all the postings and histogram them.
(Other reporting might be nice as well.) These displays would be available at the repository web site -- for LinuxQuestions.org and AndroidQuestions.org.

What is the value of these displays? One could see which hardware is and packages are in most common use (by those willing to report their details). If I'm looking for a new video card, I could see the most commonly used (and reported) and the software being used with same.

I feel that I could write at length about this "feature" but I'll leave that until someone asks for more ramblings (er, details).

Cheers,
~~~ 0;-Dan
I would bet that the most used graphics cards (and many other components) will not even be available at the market anymore when you want to buy something new.
I like the new AQ looks like, so shouldn't be any concers for me to use the new LQ in near future, I haven't tried to use AQ at the moment but it looks promissing to me.
