users blame microsoft for worms

well, a third of them anyway.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/breaki...958226277.html

I guess it's reasonable- microsoft have buggy software.
The other two large blamed groups are sysadmins and the worm writers.

lets hope these guys switch to linux!

You mean the first two folks? I don't want the third one to start using Linux...

I think it is reasonable ...

good grief- what's with the people posting meaningless posts (possibly only to up post count and stop being a newbie)

The users are the people who should switch to linux- which is logical because they blame microsoft for the worms.

Yeah, but as more people shift to Linux, it will usher in more virus writers to try their hands at bringing down Linux boxes. But of course, they wouldn't get zombies presented to them on a platter. I don't think we need to worry too much, coz I don't see Symantec porting its range of antivirus software for Linux, even if we get a deccent share of the OS market.

titanium_geek 09-03-2005 05:16 PM

Uhh... windows gets virus-s for two reasons:

-it affects a lot of people, so it is "worth" writting one. (pathetic!)
-windows code is so easy to break into.

linux is built on a more secure "lego block" system... unlike the unsecure mishmash system.

so, an increase of users won't neccesarily mean an increase in virus-s.

thus debunking the "linux rocks, people don't know what they are missing, let's keep it that way" and the "lets keep linux exlusive" theory.
