I use caps-lock to switch between western and cyrillic keymaps.

Does ed not get an honorable mention at least as it predates the editor wars and still is in almost every standard GNU/Linux install.

But we are talking about editors for programmers by picking on vi(m) & emacs.

A sysadmins favourite, (& mine), was & still is mc, (midnight commander), which has an editor built in.
(This can also be called using mcedit <filename>.)

It's part of vim, and almost certainly part of vi too.

True you have a point. I know that vi was the visual interface to ex which is an extention to ed. But vim has expanded so much passed being an interface for ed it is like a whole different editor.
