OK creating your own distro by taking ubuntu (or any other distro) and call it an own Operation System.

Ok, so I haven't(yet) read the details here but this would put me of buying from the vendor.
Last I heard though Ubuntu isn't advertised as "Linux" by Canonical. So, just another way for marketroids to distance things from the actual way they work.
Seems to work bloody well for Android(GNU?, Linux?) also.

I think it's unnecessary, but why would it actually put you off? The hardware will still be able to run other flavours of Linux.

They're certainly shy of using the word "Linux" on their website. I have no great problem with that though, we all know what Ubuntu is.

It would put me off because it is difficult enough to just have "Debian non-free" working without a suggestion that their machines might not need that to work -- I realise I did not read the details so this is likely just a case of not respecting those whop don't declare their sources.

Again with Ubuntu -- I'm happy to defend their right to not mention Linux but I don't like the idea and how, in essence, Linux is still thougt of as "a geeky, server, OS because Google, Canonical and the like think it's a dirty word.

My System76 came with some weird version of Ubuntu pre-installed, but I have been very happy since immediately making the switch to Fedora!
