Relational, Semantic Storage for Linux

GNU/Linux Semantic Storage System (GLSł)

GLSł is an open source semantic storage solution for GNU/Linux that indexes your data, extracts from it metadata and relevant information, allows you to organize it using queries and tags, provides shared schemas between applications through an API, a pseudo file system for backward compatibility, a web interface, As-You-Type searching and more.

GLSł is built for GNU/Linux, and is made to offer a solution for the ever-expanding problem of the increase in user data and the lack of appropriate, scalable-enough means to organize this data. It is built to remedy the lack of organization and searching capabilities in the widely available hierarchical file systems, by providing means for end-users and developers to organize and search through their data through a semantic abstraction.

This sounds a bit like WinFS. Would that be a fair comparison? Is it basically WinFS for Linux with a couple extra bells and whistles mixed in?

Yes, it can be classified in the same category of software as WinFS.

Looks good. Seems like linux is one step further than Vista, as Vista is not going to include WinFS (as far as I know).

Although Vista isn't shipping with WinFS, I doubt that WinFS is still in "Early Beta" stages, as GLS3 is, accordnig to its own web site. Last I heard, Microsoft will be releasing WinFS sometime next year, probably through Windows Update. Although GLS3 looks like it will be more full-featured than WinFS, once they're both ready.

Well, I installed RelFS. Now I am writing tools to work with it. Tagging works already.. And I don't mind writing SQL queries instead of learning one more intuitive search interface. And no Java!
