New backup software fills huge open source software gap!

We have a new project at http://restore-backup.com that fills a number of needs we have seen in open source software for some time now. We believe we have developed what is currently the easiest to install and operate open source backup software out there, bar none.

We currently have two versions, EE (Enterprise Edition), and DC (Data Center edition). EE is what you would expect from many enterprise based solutions and more. We are currently agent less and operate over standard protocols, FTP, SFTP, Samba and MySQL also. RESTORE backs up and restores with the permissions of the account you set up. What makes EE so nice is that it is VERY easy for a user to set up, schedule, backup and restore. We are still working on the manuals but you can get an idea of what I am talking about here http://restore.wiki.sourceforge.net/RESTORE+EE+Manual.

DC is really the killer app. We have built an open source application that allows people to start a remote data backup service. If you know how hosting providers work with their reseller systems, you'll know what I am talking about. RESTORE DC allows the owner of a data center (or somebody with a large pipe and plenty of disk space) to sell disk space (quotas) to resellers and then the resellers can resale the service to customers. We have seen very few applications like this in the commercial world and none in the open source world. The in work manual for DC can be found at http://restore.wiki.sourceforge.net/RESTORE+DC+Manual.

We have Debian and Ubuntu packages available, VMWare virtual machines and Live CDs, all at http://restore-backup.com

We really do believe we are the easiest to install, set up and operate out of all the open source solutions we have seen.

We are about 2/3 of the way to a cross platform agent, that will allow us easily to get to systems behind firewalls, and we have plans for a hand held agent also, allowing us to backup hand held devices also.

Please come check us out, get involved if it's your cup of tea. We are a project that finds value in ALL community members, no matter what level or involvement. We have big plans for this project!

RESTORE is 100% open source and is licensed under the GPL.

Thanks so much!
