How are we ever to discover how much open source code is in Windows Vista? It appears that stevie wonder is preparing the ground [and covering his posterior] to launch an attack with his latest FUD, that is, I very much suspect that Vista which was built largely using contractors who included GP Licensed code in their s/w; the functions in any OS overlap each other tremendously so why re-invent wheels? Perhaps this,in turn, could mean that M$ has infringed copyrights and/or their copyright claims are suspect hence the smokescreen of patent claims. Which is why s/w patents have been thrown out of the courts in most civilised countries.

Free Advice for the Litigious
You would be wise to listen to the customers you're threatening to sue- they can leave you, especially if you give them motivation. Remember, they wouldn't be motivated unless your products were somehow missing the mark.
Open standards and open source software are literally changing the face of the planet - creating opportunity wherever the network can reach. That's not a genie any litigator I know can put back in a bottle. http://blogs.sun.com/jonathan/ |
Microsoft running scared from Linux
Many believe that Microsoft's public announcement smacks of desperation and is a risky move by a company that has run out of ideas.

How did it end ? We will enter a technological NIGHTMARE, the SINGULARITY. I have never seen a miracle of science that didn't turn from a blessing to a curse. |

I really had a laugh from that sentence though. Probably becuase it is true. Linux is a hobby and what is so appealing about taking someone elses code? Especially from Microsoft? People love to make things themselves. And uhm... Linux itself is the kernel. It's architecture is (allthough I do not know but beleave that) completely different because it is somewhat Unix-like. Allthough both Linux and NT are posix compliant. Appart from the kernel, is not all the 'fun' stuff in Windows .NET? So how are you going to (want to) use that in C or C++? |
Your very lucky, mr old6598, that this board does not, unlike the Microsoft boards, ban people and delete their posts for being negative about their Operating Systems.

Maybe Yes, Maybe No

On a side note, perhaps we should stop feeding the troll. |
@old6598
Is some one paying you to write here? What is your purpose? You seem to be more than just a micro$oft fan/adept/whatever. AFAIK LQ is the biggest linux forum (I guess :) ) and you are posting here to spread FUD around. You have lost your arguments. If you want to pay or get payed by micro$oft no one cares here, at least I don't. If you have proof of what you are saying then say it. Your/micro$soft tactics don't work here. |
He's keeping me entertained anyway. Every circus needs a clown.

Secondly, Linux is not a miracle of science. Some good ol' boys figured out how to make their PCs work without M$'s crapware and wanted to share the idea. Period. Let's not forget the fact that of all the patent infringements M$ is claiming against Linux and OSS, not a single one has previously been tested. And why is M$ taking the low road, bolstering their claims publicly and not providing much-wanted info concerning which patents instead of using the legal, ethical practice of giving someone the chance to write around the patents? My first guess is that it's all BS, just like M$ and their crapware. Edited to add: Microsoft Patent Threat Against Linux Futile, Risky http://macobserver.com/article/2007/05/16.11.shtml "Microsoft's recent claim that the Linux OS may violate Microsoft patents is a sign that Microsoft is running out of ideas, according to ITWire on Wednesday. The tactic will be futile due to the nature of Linux, and could even pose a risk for those patents." Nuff said. |
