Mandrake adopts new roadmap and naming scheme
http://www.mandrakesoft.com/company/.../products/2546
Apparently 10.2 will never really see the light of day other than what's called a "Limited 2005 Edition" The new roadmap has only ONE mandrakelinux release a year (other than 2005) and the naming scheme will be more along Gentoo's year format. So the next BIG/Commercial release will be Mandrake 2006 in late 2005. That release will feature the best of Connectiva and the best of Mandrake. Hopefully it will make Mandrake even better. |
There is a discussion about this issue in the Mandrake forum.

So does anybody know if this "limited edition" thingie will be changed any further from the present state of the 10.2 cooker (newer drivers & the like) or is the present release it for now? I was waiting for 10.2 to come out as a stable release (I'm running 10.0 & hardware accn doesn't work with x.org in it or in 10.1 so was hoping newer versions might), but I guess I'll have to wait a while for the 2006 edition...
Till then, no CUBE for me :(. |

Spam...lol, what was that?
and i think that the "2005" edition will just be a somewhat stable 10.2 When I say somewhat stable, I think they are going to release it almost as is and just support it with updates as they focus on merging connectiva with mandrake. So this release won't be as big as the one this fall. Kinda like a "we're fixing what's wrong with 10.1 while probably breaking other things. But hey, you get a new KDE and Gnome before we get the good version out the door later" |
so yes, the 10.2 is going to be called "2005 Limited Edition"
from mandrake's site-- "March, 25th 2005 - Mandrakelinux 10.2 RC2 for x86-32, RC1 for x86-64 - Two 10.2 Release Candidates were released today! Download and test the RC2 for x86-32 at this page (very last chance before the final 2005 Limited Edition). And use this page for the RC1 64-bit edition." |
hey mod, shouldn't you remove the link to cheap warez software?
hmmm... I like numbers, but I guess it's more friendly to the windows community (who might pick mandy first because they hear it's easy) to name the version after the years. titanium_geek |
it looks like the limited edition will be available very soon for club members and a month later for non-club. i might sign up for club when the connectiva/mandrake release comes (2006) as I have a feeling that if they do it right, it can be the best linux distro to date. connective and mandrake have a lot of good features and seem to fill out where the other lacks
