I'm certainly not a regular here, and haven't visited the site for awhile, so I'm just now seeing this news. I didn't know him personally, or anything about him, but I am quite sorry to hear of his passing. I am sorry most of all for family and friends who have lost someone who cannot be replaced. But I am also sorry for all of us here, because we have collectively lost someone who according to what I've read had great knowledge and benevolence in the area of technical Linux and hardware know-how. It's a little saddening, too, to realize that someone like myself who is still learning will be impoverished by his absence without ever knowing exactly how.
Condolences to all. I hope his memory inspires and lives on in the lives of others, and I'm sure he'd have wanted that too.
Distribution: an exile stuck using live CD's for now.

His business accomplishments
In the eulogy for him on the LQ podcast, it was said that David had started his own linux business that had recently gone into the black.
I would guess that there could be no greater tribute to this guy than to discuss how he did this and what his business was. I don't mean to sound overly materialistic or greedy, but I think it also says something about him. If you can show how he turned this philanthropic effort and geeky hobby that is Linux into a bread-earning job, then that's even cooler.
