LQ is Looking for a News Editor and a Content Editor

LQ is currently interested in finding members interested in becoming either a News Editor or a Content Editor. A little additional information about each position is below. If any members are interested, please contact me so we can discuss.

News Editor
You'd be responsible for maintaining the flow of the Linux - News forum. Responsibilities would include approving submissions by other LQ members and posting what you feel are the top Linux and Open Source news stories as you see them (low volume, I'd say 0-5/day). Being able to foster additional discussion based on those news stories would be ideal.

Content Editor
We'd like to focus a little bit more on original content and this position will be critical in accomplishing that. You'd be responsible for helping us set new content guidelines, help recruit new content writers, cultivate a list of desired topics/articles, help maintain the Articles and Tutorials sections and edit/approve all content submissions. You don't necessarily need to be interested in creating new content yourself, although you're certainly able to do so if you desire. Given the large responsibilities here, it's possible we'd be willing to consider having multiple people in this position. Note that the pending upcoming code update will see both sections receive substantial overhauls.

Thanks!

News Editor

I would be interested in being a news editor! I intend to have a news section on my own site (launching in June) as well as a linux/FOSS news podcast. I could easily integrate my own news areas into the LQ forums!

Thanks all for the many submissions we've received regarding these two available positions. We're going through everything now and should have some further related announcements in the near future.

Congratulations to the following members, who will comprise the new LQ News team:

Cultist

Thanks again to everyone who showed interest. Based on feedback and growth of the section, it's possible we'll make modification moving forward. We're still working on the Content Editors and should have additional word on that in the near future.

Browse LQ Suggestions

Congrats to our new news and content editors (and thanks!). It seemed you were trolling for suggestions. Recall that there is a suggestions forum, so I recommend
you start by looking over there. In fact, I made a suggestion just the other day, which was that there should be an LQ Printing Forum (just as there is now an
LQ networking forum). Another member added that it ought to be a "printing and scanning" forum.

Also, our Jeremy has done many good things ... I think it's important that he be clear on his "value add". At one point he started "LinuxExchange" which looked to me
like a bit more of a "HowTo" site with permanent original content. I contributed an early link on a particularly annoying printer which drew a lot of favorable
interest and still seems to rank high on Google Search.

http://linuxexchange.org/questions/4...r-debian-lenny

If we're going to add original content to LQ, I wonder how it differs from LE?
In my view, what LQ has going for it is it is the site with the most sophisticated users/moderators. If you have a tough question, you are very likely
to get it answered here. Traffic may be higher on the Ubuntu forums, but the overall level of knowledge and post quality is considerably lower.

So it's not clear to me that LQ needs original content beyond what it already does well, which is answer tough questions. Now if someone wanted to improve the tagging/searching to try to make it even more effective to find the nuggets of gold that are already distributed through the site, that might be worthwhile.

My two cents...
