Congratulations to Jeremy, and to all LQ members. I learned a lot with you guys and I try to share what I learned as much I can.
Regarding to the suggestions I think the search could be improved.
I think the current interface is too crowded...
Don't get me wrong. Having an advanced search it is nice and necessary.
May be using AJAX you can draw an interface which shows more and more options as the user fill the previous fields. And use better initial values so the defaults will apply 90% of times. Like "Finding posts with at least 1 reply" (default=1), or "find posts with 1 year old" (in general you want fresh answers for recent bugs, don't you ?)
Another suggestion is to have a configurable initial page for logged/registered users. I would like to have "Subscribed threads" as my initial page, ordered by "new posts first" order.
I've been using this site for years and have only just signed up. So although there are 407,152 members, I'd guess there are ten times as many people who have been helped by the great content on this site. Knowledge shared is an exponential benefit through a medium like LQ.
btw, I'm embarrassed that this is only my first post, not my last though. Happy birthday LQ, and many thanks to everyone.
Every time I start working with Linux I thank every god that may be for this message board and the wonderful folks who take time to come help (me) out.
Suggestion: Distribution specific sub categories, such as...
I. Slackware
a. Install
b. X issues
c. hardware
d. Development
