Linux for Charity

Hello,

I am the President and CTO of a brand new charity in Bowling Green, Ohio called Computers for Charity.

Our mission is to reduce the electronic waste in our landfills by taking donations of computers and related accessories and refurbishing them to distribute to individuals, charities and non-profits in need, thereby bridging the digital divide by providing some of the basic tools required to succeed in todays world.

We work to promote recycling, promote reuse, and to promote awareness of the environmental impact of improperly disposed electronic waste. We also strive to help organizations cut costs and utilize their technology resources more efficiently.

We provide a cost effective alternative to commercial software and the support and expertise to assist in the migration to Open Source alternatives. This provides a solution to the long term cost of hardware upgrades that are required to keep up with the resource demands of commercial software.

Our goal is to spread quality, foundational and comprehensive literacy about computer technology and Open Source software, through providing training and workshops as needed. We also provide computers designed specifically for children to familiarize them with computer technology and provide a framework to enhance their education.

We are currently seeking volunteers to help us to fulfill this mission. We need both virtual and physical help to carry out the tasks involved in this worthy cause. If anyone is interested, please contact us at computersforcharity@gmail.com or through this forum.
