My Linux story
 

I used to be a proponent of Windows. As of late, I have lost the faith. The truth is Windows does't seem to get better, it just gets more complex. I got tired of the exploit d'joure, the spying, the data mining, the UEFI BIOS flap, having to replace my software suite every few years, and the goverment company that Microsoft chooses to keep.

I'm a BSEE/MSCS and have coded for DOS, MS Windows, UNIX, and several other OS. I have coded assembly language for several processors. I have even modified PC BIOS for a nurse call system. All that was fun, but then I lost the fun until I installed Debian on my personal high end desk top and bought a copy of Rute. Now the fun is back.

Open source is good. I see lots of math and engineering packages like spice that I remember form the good old days as an EE/CS. No more upgrade the OS and throw the software suite away. The new stuff appears quite good. I now dual boot primarily to Debian weezie and rarely to Win7. Want to make an old guy happy, just hurry up jessie with the steam package and encourage release of commercial or free high end native Linux games. CodeWright for Linux would be good too.

I think I finally figure that out. I click on Forums and chooose one, and there it is. Then I make a title for the post, and click to see id someone has already dealt with it. I sometimes change the title several times and check each one, and often get the answer to my question before I commit to asking it. Thanks again.

Has windows related frustration began to accumulate I started playing with Red Hat 6.3 (circa 1999/2000?). Used it for a couple of years before switching to mandrake and after that ubuntu. A coule of years ago made the move to arch. These days having to touch a windows machines tends to be a painfull experience.
