2 updates.

* Ubuntu Live 2008 has unfortunately been canceled. O'Reilly was kind enough to substitute an OSCON pass in place of the Ubuntu Live pass.
* dthacker is not able to attend, so the prize moves on to richbl. Please contact me if you are interested in attending OSCON.

I use Ubuntu on my laptop. I install linux systems and help other people with their installations - and Ubuntu is one of the most common systems I work on due to its popularity.

I also develop on Linux, usually for Mandriva, Fedora, or Ubuntu. Presently, I am integrating a major radar system upgrade on contract to a large aerospace firm. This integration has had me writing a kernel driver for the 2.6 kernel, and the deployment is on a ubuntu-based embedded system. Presently I am writing (in Linux, to be hosted on the ubuntu embedded sysetem) some middleware that integrates a Windows front end machine with the embedded machine, permitting the customer to control the radar system from the convenience of Windows XP (LOL!).

I would like to attend the conference for two reasons; first because I am actively developing in Linux and second because a young lady who is a very good and very close friend is in the Portland area and this would give me a chance to see her.

Hmmm...guess I should have read the whole thread, and checked the dates before posting.

Oh well.

my entry

I have been a somewhat active member of the Linux comunity since 2003. I also have started an informal program for underpriveledged children similar to Computers for Kids only I take used hardware and put GNU-Linux on it. I get no pay and even pay out of my own pocket for ram cards, usb cables and things of that nature to make sure everything on the machine works. The work has its own rewards. I know a kid somewhere is going to have a better shot at a good career since this family of operating systems I believe has more of a future than proprietary ones.
I would like to go the conference because I can learn the inner workings of the development community which is an area of interest for me. I can configure and improve the machines I've given to kids and the ones I'm about to.
