Answer Storage idea

Greetings from cold ass Detroit.

I reserved a domain called AnswerStorage and I have paid for servers in Digital Ocean cloud.

The short-term idea is to have static HTML pages with answers to Oft-asked LQ questions. Such as the famous "Where do i download redhat?"

I'm thinking of keeping it static, no logins, invite only. Basically serve up some pre-formatted Bootstrap HTML to give quick, correct and in-depth answers to just about anything. To be used either as a link in a post/forum, or as a copypasta source.

It would ultimately grow into something spanning multiple genres, and use 0auth logins, and allow community editing and voting to keep the answers in good shape. But it would not be a forum. It would grow to be the answer repository that is referenced in articles, discussions, forums and such.

It will be an open source, MIT licensed, Github project for no profit and with no ads.

I'm wondering if you anyone would have any interest/time helping to put it together? If so, just hit me up.

I can take care of the main idea, the broad strokes. But I'm not an expert programmer or artist.. And I think that it is something that could be utilized by any forum including LQ!

(I put this in LQ feedback, because the project would benefit LQ users. Feel free to move it according to your opinion on the matter.)

There are actually a few QA scripts that are available, you could also use MediaWiki to create something similar.

Many people use WordPress as well, there's also a skin to make WordPress more like a wiki.

I keep toying with a similar idea but generally a quick Gooooogle search turns up the answer so I didn't bother.

As for answers to oft-asked LQ questions..... good luck with that, people will STILL post without doing even a simple Google or LQ search. :) :)

Right you are.

I'm thinking something more static than a wiki. In my mind it would be a specific answer to a specific question. IE: Here at LQ, or other forums, the thread is always full of suggestions and other flotsam. This would be a cleaned version of that.

In fact, I am starting with the idea of manually creating a template in HTML, and filling out the question and answer by hand. Later, I would allow trusted editors to add content. And eventually I would allow community contributions based on trusted editor votes.

But the way im going about it, there would be no room for discussion. These would be cut and dry answers. Authoritative.

So do you like the idea? Any interest in helping?

If so, you or anyone else, would get written credit and partial ownership of the Gihub project. I'm not in this to make money or anything like that. I'm in it to create something popular that can be used on the ole resume. I imagine in my head "Hello sir, we require familiarity with AnwserStorage for this particular job..." and me "Well thats wonderful, I wrote it!"

Hey szboardstretcher,

I would like to help you in something like this, but besides the fact that they already are all sorts of sites with a similar scope, I find it hard to see how some questions can have just "dry answers"..
