AMD Dropping Proprietary Driver Support For Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000

Support for these legacy AMD products is coming to an end in the proprietary driver. While the open-source driver will continue to have support, anyone with these cards who relies on the proprietary driver for their hardware use will have to make a switch to the less efficient driver or put out the money for a hardware upgrade.

This will render my laptop (in-built Radeon HD3200) and any other laptop with that kind of video hardware useless a least for mobile use, since the open-source driver has serious issues with power consumption, causing short battery run times and overheating machines.
Before they drop support for that hardware in their proprietary drivers they should actually fix the issues in the open-source drivers.
If they really drop the support for that hardware before that happens AMD's image in the Linux community will be seriously damaged, like we had it a few years before. Why do they make the same mistake again?
If that happens I will in the future not anymore recommend any laptop/netbook/whatever mobile device with AMD chipset.
