Although if you held the same poll on the Debian or Arch forum for example, I wonder how the placings would look. Would Slackware score so favourably? I think not. No one blocks Debian or others from voting here, the point is that they are less likely to do so. Again this is no disrespect to Slackware as it is a fine distro. I am glad I am the one to bring it to light this year, I missed out last year
I agree completely with this statement. I am a Slackware user and think it's a great distro; however these numbers are so ridiculously skewed in Slackware's favor. If you look outside of LQ Slackware is regarded as a fringe distro. I think the stats from DistroWatch give one a more realistic idea of how popular Slackware is:

http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity

Here it looks like Slackware is between the 13th and 20th most popular distro which seems about right to me. The results included BSD-based distros too but, whatever.

Great information I was surprised at some of the winning apps and dist though.

I am seeing that many server hosting companies are offering CentOS as default OS and its been used by many across the globe but why its not getting a place ? How? Is it because its only in servers?

Just a heads up that the 2011 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards forum will be removed from the forumhome index in a few days. As in the past, all threads and polls will be reachable via direct URL indefinitely.

Slackware too close to ubuntu ! :) settling with arch linux but now I am curious to see how good slackware is :D

Yes, although not in first place, Slackware keeps being the 2nd most preferred. Personally, 13.37 has been a real exciting experience. Both my personal laptop and my system at work have been running 13.37 out of the box, with no hassle at all, one year round. Thanks Slackware team.

GlennsPref 08-31-2012 06:31 AM

Looks great Jer. Wish more would vote, but this is what we HAVE. (caps)

I think we're progressing.

You deserve a lot of thanks. Great job.

Regards Glenn
