ZTE AC8710 usb dongle modem
Just wanted to find out if the new linux kernel supports the ZTE AC8710 usb dongle modem. If not, how do I compile the drivers into the kernel?

I am not sure if it does or not. If not I found a site with a patch file that will add support for it to the options. I do not have experience with this device so I am not sure if its fully working or not. Do you have experience adding patches to the kernel or even building a kernel from sources?

here is the site

Some small progress
I found another software called usb_modeswitch which switches the modem from mass storage to modem in linux. Problem is, after that, the system tries to look for drivers and doesn't get any. So am still stuck. If I get the drivers, can I use modeprobe to add them as modules or do I have to recompile the kernel?

What I found was a kernel patch and an incomplete one at that I believe. If you can find a driver to build for the modem you would have to add it using the insmod command.
