Yum question

Hi all, I'm in the middle of setting up a mythtv box using FC3. I've set up another Myth box before (successfully) however, I used apt. Now, I'm trying out Yum. Initially, my list of repositories (in /etc/yum.repos.d) was quite small. I just had a couple of standard fedora repo's, plus 2 that I added - freshrpms and atrpms.

After doing a yum upgrade recently, I noticed that now I've got a bunch of new repos: dag, dries, kde-redhat, newrpms, nrpms, flash, and gstreamer to name a few. Apparently it's normal for yum to just "update" the repo list like this? Normally I wouldn't care, but now I'm getting weird depency issues when trying to install stuff with Yum that I never had initially. Is having more repo's a good thing? Can/should I remove some of them?

Thanks in advance, I'm a newb to Yum so I hate to try anyting too drastic without asking first.

Usually upgrading from many different repos will eventually break your installation.. personally id update only from the main repo and just use the others to download specific software or updates that i truly need.

Don't use too many repos, you will cause yourself update problems and package conflicts.

Ok thanks guys, that confirms my suspicion. :) I'm going to go ahead and remove most of those "new" repos and just stick to the main fedora one, plus probably atrpms and freshrpms since they have some Myth-specific stuff.
