# This file uses a new mirrorlist system developed by Lance Davis
for CentOS.
# The mirror system uses the connecting IP address of the client and
the
# update status of each mirror to pick mirrors that are updated to
and
# geographically close to the client. You should use this for
CentOS updates
# unless you are manually picking other mirrors.
#
# If the mirrorlist= does not work for you, as a fall back you can
try the
# remarked out baseurl= line instead.

Hi thanks for the link but that link doesnt help much with the problem i have i have already configured the yum.conf file

as i said all my proxy details are correct as i am a ble to connect to the internet.

but still cannot update.

linuxlover.chaitanya 02-17-2009 12:22 AM

Are you connecting to internet via transparent proxy or do you set your web browser to connect it via proxy?

You can browse internet, but does yum seem to go the websites? If yum does not go on the web, then your proxy details may not be known by yum. If it is the case then try in the terminal:

Code:

export http_proxy:"http://myproxyname.domain:port"
export ftp_proxy:"http://myproxyname.domain:port"

where myproxyname.domain and port are your proxy values.

Are you connecting to internet via transparent proxy or do you set your web browser to connect it via proxy?

Yes i do connect via a proxy and i have edited my web browser to use the proxy settings.

_________
export http_proxy:"http://myproxyname.domain:port"
export ftp_proxy:"http://myproxyname.domain:port"

I have tried these and i get the error not a valid identifier

for the both of them.
thank you for everyones help

Ok you will need to set the environment variable http_proxy. It has already been answered in the post #5. Do that. Or else you can do it other way as well.

Code:

http_proxy=proxy_ip:proxy_port
export http_proxy

Does the same thing just different way.
