yum gpg keys?

Hi.

Just begun making my linux a little bit more fun, tried to install mplayer with yum but it won't allow me because it needs gpg keys.

The OS is FC3.

I copied a list of sites from another yum.conf file to my yum.conf and some of them (if not all) require those keys.

This is how my yum.conf looks like:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[main]
cachedir=/var/cache/yum
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
pkgpolicy=newest
distroverpkg=redhat-release
tolerant=1
exactarch=1
retries=20
obsoletes=1
gpgcheck=0

# PUT YOUR REPOS HERE OR IN separate files named file.repo
# in /etc/yum.repos.d

[main]
cachedir=/var/cache/yum
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
pkgpolicy=newest
distroverpkg=fedora-release
tolerant=1
exactarch=0
# Added this because some mirrors go down and then retying takes forever.
retries=1
timeout=10

Hello Infernal,

First some of your repo's will conflict with another.

The GPG key is normally found at the repo homepage.

See http://www.freshrpms.net , http://dag.wieers.com as a few exaples.

I prefer to use only a few repo's, see my yum.conf (Fedora Core 3 compatile)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[main]
#cachedir=/var/cache/yum
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
pkgpolicy=newest
distroverpkg=redhat-release
tolerant=1
exactarch=1
retries=20
obsoletes=1
gpgcheck=1

# in /etc/yum.repos.d

[dries]

I guess putting so many sites in the yum.conf wasn't a good idea after all..

anyways, i downloaded apt to satisfy my curiosity and it seems to be friendlier, it dowsnt complain a lot (not even one gpg key panic so far) and the synaptic plugin is kinda nice too..

does apt use keys at all?

a clarification on repo-lists

Hi guys, I think I can help you out a bit.

I'm no made-man with linux myself, but i know that since every repo in infernal's list has the "enabled=0" theres no problem (problem being conflicting rpm's), since yum wont employ these repos.

Now to the real problem at hand:
Infernal - you have two ways to go from here:
One, you see what sites you can get gpg.public.key for, or two disable gpgchecking altogether.
I have chosen the latter, and if you wish to do the same just replace all #gpgcheck=1 with gpgcheck=0
and keep that gpgcheck=0 in [main].

I havn't read through man/doc for yum carefully, but if the posted conf doesn't work for you i assume gpgcheck defaults to 1/on, and a commented line like #gpgcheck=1 wont affect yum at all. You need to disable gpgcheck altogether.

...and no, i don't think apt supports keys. At least I have never seen any sign of such...
