YouTube better on Windows why ?

I have a dual boot hp mini 311. windows 7 and Ubuntu Unity 11.04

My hp mini 311 plays youtube videos with a lot more distortion on Ubuntu 11.04 than windows 7 ? I installed the adobe flash player plugin through ubuntu software centre and it made no real difference.

I thought it had to be the Intel Atom processor which simply couldn't push it. But the same video plays much better on Windows 7. I can't explain it ?

Does windows have some better multimedia source code built into their OS ?

Is there anything I can do to improve the youtube'ng in Ubuntu ? or am I forced to make that assumption that ubuntu is still not ready for prime time ?

thanks for your help..

This is most likely a video driver issue. The Video Drivers are not open source so aren't installed by default, make sure you have the correct video drivers installed. I am not sitting at an ubuntu box right now and can't recall the exact directions to install the drivers but try this link, it will probably be helpful.

If is drivers, system->administration->hardware should launch 'jocket-gtk' which allows you to install the nVidia (and other) drivers from a GUI. At least it should, its been buggy the last release or two.

*edit- assuming that your Mini 311 is an nVidia ion model. if its got an intel video, you wont be able to install video drivers from jockey.

Its possible that you dont have the drivers, and that wont be helping. The real problem could be that adobe doesnt support hardware video decoding for flash with linux, its supported with windows. Blame adobe for that, not ubuntu, or linux.
