Another way would be to look into;

Linux User Groups <- World list
Linux Meetup Groups <- 'Meet other local Linux enthusiasts to talk about the latest news and software'
Some LUG will have a Gnu/Linux fest to help members or non-members to get Gnu/Linux help for a particular Gnu/Linux install.

Try at least a few choices made for your hardware. distrowatch.com has some information on choices usually.
