Everything you should need for a successful install can be found here: http://www.frankscorner.org/install_wine.html

Good luck with it -- J.W.

i managed to install it
and run it but about 99.9 % of my progs don't work at all
so can someone tell me if there is another prog or emulator than can surely run windows programs ????

please help me

Not all Windows programs work perfectly under Wine, but if you claim that "99.9%" of them fail, then I'd question whether or not your wine installation really worked or not. Did you set up the fake C:\ drive, as per the instructions? What happens if you cd to that fake C:\ drive, and then run the command: wine notepad.exe (what should happen is that Notepad should start) Also, in order for a Windows program to be available for execution under wine, you need to download the Windows .zip or .exe file, then go through the standard Windows installation procedure. Have you done that for the programs you are interested in running? I'm no expert on this but I was able to get wine up and running pretty easily. -- J.W.

i've set wine correctly, and notepad and some apps work, like IE, and ICQ
and i have the fake C drive, but the prob is that when i run any installer to install any prog, it either says nothing or it give strange error messages

can u tell me what 2 do ??? :(

btw: have u tried to run any games with it ?

J.W. 08-20-2003 05:29 PM

For games, I believe you would be better off using winex rather than wine. I really am not familiar with winex though, as I don't have a lot of interest in spending my time shooting at zombies or whatever. (I know I'm in the minority here but PC games just don't really do much for me.)

Anyway, as I understand it winex is specifically designed to handle heavy video demands (ie, games) and my best recommendation would be to search some of the other threads here at LQ for better information than I can provide. Sorry I can't be more help, but the info you can find at the frankscorner link I provided earlier should be useful. Good luck with the project. -- J.W.
