Ye Age Old Question
 

Hey boys

Ok basically im stuck between a decision of distro's

First phew notes:

I have installed and tried each. but im still stuck choosing

I realise the disadvantages and advantages of most

Im not after starting a which is "better" argument. i am simply asking people's opinion after long time use. thats were my curiousity is

on youtube reviewer once said "you cant really review a linux distro until you've used for a phew month's" and thats true. no distro is judge-able until a phew months of use, updates, changes, etc

Anyway onto the topic

Im stuck between slackware, gentoo, and archlinux

I like all 3. Archlinux is nice. Pacman is great, i even did a youtube video on arch. ive had little issues but after the installation. i feel im not learning as much as i want to

I realise that i would learn alot more with gentoo, but compiling times are a dreaded future in which i dont have the life for. and Stability does concern me. i dont mind fixing a phew configs, but i hate fixing an entire system

Slackware. well chuck on swaret or simply install Salix Basic. and your all set, and hey, aint it fun installing from source? dear cookie monster heaven. help me

Anyway. Whats the community's opinion on these 3 distro's, and im mostly after long time users, on updating, stability, usefuleness in gaming area's. performance and long time updates/support

Or is there another distro out there that i somehow havn't heard of that could do a similiar job to what im after

Basically what im after is this - Twinkering, a funny terminal to watch 100 lines of code appear when you do Yaourt -S package. stability, Gaming performance - Kernel tweaks possably to improve gaming

though ive never seen a distro that focuses on gaming/performance kernel tweaks. i have heard of teh Liquirox ( however u spell it, reminds me of a food ) kernel which appearently is great for linux gamers with many tweaks, but yet to use it

And most of all. stable updating, with the ability to fix problems, rollback possably. and perferably binary package management for dependency checking and installation

if i had to choose, slackware hands down. i was on it about 2.5 years and then this distro called ubuntu came out. Now i am working on my rhct exam and switched to centos.

My opinion, go for Slackware, very stable, fast, very long support times, kernel tweaking is no problem, you will probably get more than 100 lines in your terminal when installing software, if needed Wine packages are provided by AlienBob.

By the way, the Liquorix kernels are for Debian and derivatives and is optimized for desktop systems, that may help with gaming, but i don't know that.

Get three hard drives, put one on each.

Slackware, Distro of Iron. No question.
