YAST2 user manual?
 

Where can I find this (yast2 user manual)?

Doing a search here for 'yast' did not bring up a single hit with the word 'yast' in the title. I don't trust Google.

Typical new user scenario (ie what got me here):
(1) created custom gnome panel (equivalent to the 'task bar' in Windows)
(2) deleted the original custom panel
(3) no longer see the gnome networkmanager applet (which is the only way I know to select available wireless networks)
(4) can't get on the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm crippled!!!!!
(5) plugged in hardwired connection and got internet!
(6) tried to use YOU (Yast2 Online Update) to reinstall gnome 'networkmanager' applet
(7) dependencies conflict
(a) don't know how to use YOU to resolve conflicts
(b) don't know what a RPM is or what a package is
(c) [help] menu says to look in the 'user manual' for additional info, although google searches turn up nothing useful

If you mean Yast2 from opensuse just open a terminal su enter
passward enter
man yast

'man yast2' worked (had a manual entry)

No, I am using Suse 10.2 (I've edited my post since you posted...).

What *IS* opensuse?? I'm new to all of this as of June 2008. All I know, is that opensuse is updated more frequently than Sled Suse. I also know that there is no substitute for cracking the books here.

Seems like there is an aweful lot that I need to learn.

Yes as soon as they discover a bug they will fixed .
In yast software option you can configure the online update.
And it will warn you when there is a update , but as opensuse 10.2 is rather old now , most bugs are already fixed.
We are now at opensuse 11.0 and opensuse 11.1 is coming soon , but opensuse 10.2 is still supported
And if it suit you well keep it
Yast stand for let say Yet A other System Tool , so yast can do a lot more for you than only installing , un installing it is also you're GUI system tool.
AS you discover running yast needs root privileges .
If you are new to Linux opensuse is easy to use and to keep it up to date.
And at least it deliver what it promise
It is good that you mention the version you use , because there are some differenties between the versions
