yast in suse 10 very slow

can anyone tell me why yast is so slow when updating security patches. have broadband .it seemes to download a few patches and then goes to sleep for a long time.have I got the right ftp site, seems that all mirrors are in germany. connect single pc through cable modem

Try picking a different server; sometimes a given download site is under heavy traffic. Also, you don't indicate where you're located, but be sure to choose a server that is local to you; if you are in, say, Australia or the USA, then connecting to Germany most likely would be slower than one that is nearer.

Once the patches have been downloaded, it does take some time to process them, and depending on the speed of your PC it may look like nothing's happening in the interim. What kind of rig are you running?

open office.update is one that causes problem deselect it and it goes rather fast
