Can someone tell me if its possible to completely upgrade from SuSE Professional 9.0 to SuSE Professional 9.1 using YAST from within KDE 3.14? I've burned the 9.1 iso and tried several times to do an FTP install and it always freezes up my modem about 1/3 of the way thru the downloading. It has happened several times.... I have a cable modem hooked into an onboard LAN connection on my motherboard. When I use YAST and do an ONLINE UPDATE everything works fine or when I'm surfing the internet or email. But, when I try to do an FTP install something goes wrong and about 1/3 of the way thru the download everything just stops.... ofcourse, this is right after my partitions have been reformated and I wind up reinstalling SuSE 9.0 Professional with my DVD. Anyway, thats why I was wondering if its possible to do a SYSTEM upgrade (9.0 to 9.1) using YAST from within KDE 3.14.

perhaps you should try using the noacpi boot parameter from the 9.1 boot disk...


Aside from that... I'm not completely sure if you can do a full upgrade... I purchased both Professional editions.. but I didn't ugrade anyways....

They do make a 9.1 Professional upgrade edition though that is cheaper... check it out at best buy...

What is noacpi boot parameter?? Normally, when I boot up the 9.1 boot disk it just ask what method for the install... ie ftp, hard disk, or floppy. Then you have to load modules... ie for the modem or hard dish or floppy.

I don't remember seeing any noacpi boot parameter... so, how is this accomplished??

The first screen you see when you boot the cd is a list of choices:

Boot from hard disk
Installation
Installation Safe Mode
*some other choices*


along with a long text box across the bottom.. if you select "Installation" and key "noacpi" it will disable acpi during the install... so you should be able to complete the installation...
