Yahoo Messenger

I installed Yahoo IM using msgr9us.exe using wine.
Everything seem to install ok.
And the Yahoo Messenger box also seem to load and open alright when I click on the Yahoo Messenger icon on my desktop.
But the problem is I cannot sign in even with my correct id and password.
It gives me an error message saying 'Sign In Problem' and ask me to Try Again or if I have Forgotten My ID and Password
to click on the Sign-In-Problem button. I tried again and the Sign-In-Problem' button but nothing happen.
Is something blocking the use of Yahoo Messenger.

Hi

Is there some specific reason why you are using yahoo messenger on wine? You can simply use pidgin to sign into the yahoo network.

Thank you for your advice.
I downloaded the Pidgin 2.5.2 Source files and installed according to the instruction given using ./configure
and I got an error message as follow:
........................
checking whether the g++ linker (/usr/i586-suse-linux/bin/ld) supports shared libraries... yes
checking dynamic linker characteristics... GNU/Linux ld.so
(cached) (cached) checking how to hardcode library paths into programs... immediate
appending configuration tag "F77" to libtool
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking for xgettext... no
checking for msgmerge... no
checking for msgfmt... /usr/bin/msgfmt
configure: error: GNU gettext tools not found; required for intltool
wstay@linux-154x:~/Desktop/NewFolder/pidgin-2.5.2>

I am using openSuse10.2
I do not know what, if I need to install any Development-packages for the GNU gettext tools.

For yahoo messenger specifically I would recommend kopete, because pidgin does not yet fully support file transfers. If you try to transfer files with pidgin it will most likely fail, I've tried many different things and I can't get it to send files. kopete however works just fine. If you wanted to install pidgin tho, it says you need gettext, so I guess in SUSE and other rpm based distros it would be gettext-devel or something.

why aren't you using YAST to install pidgin?

Package Repositories - openSUSE

YaST/Modules/Software Management - openSUSE

I still can not log in to my Yahoo Messenger with Kopete.
I can not find pidgin rpm for suse10.2 and I download the source file
which I can not install using Yast.

Well, that's not true anymore. I'm running Pidgin v.2.5.2 and I never had any problem with file transfer. If there is any reason to use kopete, that would be the video support which lacks in pidgin.

Ok, that's good to hear, I was using 2.4.1 and it doesn't work with it. Maybe I'll try the new one.

I can connect to Yahoo Messenger now.
I did not realize I do not have to include @yahoo.com in my username.
Anyway, thanks everybody for all the information.
