xwmconfig and KDM not working

I finally got KDE working but I have to go into /home/me/kde3.5.3 and run startx for it to start.
when I do startx from any other directory it wont start, could that be a path thing?
also when I do xwmconfig KDE is not there just some tab X and xinitrc, I choose both and KDE wont start. I checkd .xinitrc and KDE is not there either.
also maybe related I cannot get KDM to work at all, only XDM and that will only startup the default window manager, tabx or something.

Is ther an easy way to get KDM working?

How did you install KDE? Did you just install it in your home dir? or did you install it in the opt dir?

I didnt install it, I used Konstruct and it did it automatically. I think its in /home/usr because there is a .KDE directory there. There is also a KDE in opt but it only has a share directory.

It might be a file permissions problem..

But, there should be much more in /opt

why did you use konstruct, does your distro not offer 3.5 packages?

I wanted the most recent version of KDE but now I see its way more trouble than its worth. Konstruct installed it into the home directory.

Well, just so you know, if you like Slack, you might like Arch... It's a bit more bleeding edge, and also has great packages for msot things (including kde 3.5.3..). It's along the lines of Slack, but with a bit of Gentoo and some BSD for kicks.
